The site of the former Dukla Mine will come to life again

Havířov – With specialists' assistance the OKD company has blasted off one of the sights of the former Dukla Mine - a 56 meter high metal mining tower. Having disposed of the last remaining objects on the site and removing the main tower the remaining buildings and land will serve to the new design of RPG Real Estate. In cooperation with the city of Havířov the company is preparing to regenerate the whole area.

"The RPG Real Estate objective is to value the areas damaged by industrial and mining activities and to include them back in the landscape and urban organism to create new jobs and thus participate in the overall development of the Moravian-Silesian Region," says Petr Handl, the RPG Real Estate external relations manager. And he adds: “That is why the development projects and plans for suitable areas are being prepared." These development plans are consulted with regional and municipal representatives because in many cases these locations are attractive, often near city centres.
To give a concrete example, RPG Real Estate and the city of Havířov are actively cooperating and looking for a prosperous future for the former Dukla Mine site. It represents an area of 30 ha in a location with a great potential for further development. The mining activities were terminated at the beginning of 2007 and now the results of mining activities are being removed. Currently this area is owned by OKD, a.s. however in October 2008 it should be transferred to the RPG Real Estate portfolio according to the work schedule. Thus it is understandable that the possibilities to exploit this area in the future are searched for today.
Petr Handl says about the future of this area: "It is very important that this area has a technical infrastructure with a large capacity and good road and railway connection. The premises are specific for several historical sights which are located there. This plot of land may be potentially exploited as an industrial-commercial site utilizing current historical and administrative buildings.”
Since August 2007 the workgroup formed by the representatives of RPG Real Estate and the city of Havířov has been meeting regularly. Together they have been preparing a plan to utilize the premises and schedule the regeneration of the whole area. By 2010 a business incubator should be established, providing a space for small manufactures and assembly shops as well as offices for new enterprises. This incubator project has been chosen as a priority within the Moravian-Silesian Region contract “The Support of the Moravian-Silesian Region Preparation to Draw on EU Funds in the 2007-2013 Planning Period“ in the area of business and innovation. The premises include a former Civil Defence shelter that could be in the future opened for public as a technical sight.
